Still Waiting…
Well, it’s Saturday (yikes, did I miss Friday’s Feast?). It finally looks like Kayla is on the mend. It’s been a looooong week. And the days are still dragging as I wait for the rest of us to get it. Nothing so far, but I can’t see how any of us can escape it.
I don’t remember how much I ended up posting from when my computer was broken in January. But K got a tummy bug (Sunday am) then and threw up for 10 hours b/4 we were sent to the ER due to dehydration (she has a weak tummy). She was given Zofran (a miracle anti-vomiting drug) and after drinking 20 ounces and returning to her normal, goofy self, we were sent home. She was then over the virus and after 3 days or so her eating returned to normal and after a week and additional calorie supplement, her weight returned to normal (I’m going by Mommy-radar here). Alysa got it the following Friday am – she threw up once and was 100% back to normal (besides a bit of crankiness that day). J got it Friday evening and I got it very early Sunday morning. None of us had it like Kayla did.
So this time, it started 9pm Sunday night and by 5am, I gave her Zofran (I had the 2nd half from January). I was trying to avoid an ER visit and dehydration. J got some sleep that night, I sat up and watched her sleep for the 20-30 minute intervals in between. She was fine most of Monday (by fine I mean no throwing up). At around 4, it started again. By 8, I realized she had not pee’d since 11am that morning. So the nurse sent us to the ER again. J stayed with A and I got to take Kayla and get us both exposed to heaven knows what in the crowded ER. They were packed, so we didn’t get out of there until 2am. At midnight, they gave her Zofran again and we were sent home at 2am. I got to sleep at 3am and woke up at 6 to K screaming. She then slept with me until 9. J was great and went in to work late so we could rest a bit. Then he came home early b/c Alysa had her f/u with the allergist at 3pm Tuesday. Ugh! Kayla had a high fever Tuesday (102.6), but no throwing up. But 2am Wed, she started again. She threw up until 10am that morning when her Ped had us go out and get Zofran for her. He was trying to avoid us taking her out in the ice storm we were having. Then Thursday night at 6pm, she threw up AGAIN! Luckily this was a one-time relapse. But she was a blog that night and yesterday. I did take her in to her Ped’s office yesterday, as I figured, after 5 days, I wanted her looked at and weighed.
With a recovering Failure To Thrive dx (FTT), I am sent into panic mode at the slightest drop in weight, either actual or perceived. Well, my Mommy-radar was right on. In October, she was 24lb, 10oz (yes she’s very light) and yesterday she was down to 24lb even. Now I don’t know what she weighed b4 getting sick, but I know she had gained weight and had to be over 25 lb, or at lest 25lb. Her 2T pants were finally snug and fitting quite well on her. That’s amazing in and of itself. They are now pathetically baggy on her emaciated body. Her ribs are prominently showing again and the back of her rib cage sticks out of her back.
But this morning, she had a half a waffle for breakfast, some soy milk and some soy yogurt. It’s her first meal of substance since lunchtime last Sunday. It’s not back to normal yet, but I’ll take it. She got some fat and protein in her. Yay!
Alysa ate horribly this morning. So I’m not sure if it’s b/c her tummy is not right or if it’s simply b/c she has a cold (like me and J) and has an awful cough. I’m not feeling great either. But again, I have a cold, cough and just general lack of sleep all week.
I of course, don’t want to get sick. But if I have to, why can’t it just come so I can be done with it? It’s more stressful waiting for it. And I just hope I get it again when J is home like last time. It was at least “considerate” enough to be sick through the night and not when I’m taking care of the girls.
It's a day of major laundry today and waiting to get sick. Well, wish me luck. I don’t see how we can escape it… Barring getting sick, I’ll be back later to post my Photo Hunt… I still have to hunt down a photo… LOL
