An Uneventful Week
Well, so far it's been an uneventful week around our house. Well, for most of us. Poor Alysa had a bad scrape on her nose last week from tripping over her doll and falling into the coffee table. The scab just fell off yesterday and then, of course, when J took them outside to see the snow (the dusting of snow anyway), she fell and has a big scrape between her nose and her upper lip. This girl can't win. But what do you expect from a 14 month old? I'm surprised I haven't had to take them in to see the doctor. It seems every time they have an obvious bump or cut, I end up at the doctors for something unrelated, just so they can say, "Oh, I see she has a bump on her head.". Yup. Isn't that how it always goes?
Saturday will be a fun day for us, as my Mom and I are taking Kayla to see Go Diego Go. It's a live show and Kayla is very excited to go. I even was able to get her a new Dora outfit on clearance so she'll be festively dressed. They don't have any Diego outfits for girls, but at least Dora will be in the show. She loves her new outfit and I'm sure she'll look positively precious. :) Alysa will get some quality one-on-one time with her Gramps. I know my Dad is looking forward to it and I'm sure Alysa would say the same if she were older. Since Alysa won't sit through a 20 minute show on tv, I figured I'd give her a break from an hour and a half show. But in April, J and I are taking BOTH girls to see Elmo. Luckily my parents are both going, so we'll have plenty of people to keep Alysa entertained if she won't sit through it. She does love Elmo, so hopefully the live part will keep her mesmerized.
I do have some fun news - my Sister and I have decided to finally plan the trip our families have been wanting to take for years. We actually were supposed to go to Sanibel Island, Florida in January of 2006, but then I got pg, then she did. I was due in December and she was due in January - so that was a bust. So now, our plan is to go to Disney World in February of 2009. Yes, don't laugh, I know it's 2 years away. But considering we have to coordinate with J, and her hubby and my parents, we need the time. Plus our plan is to use our Timeshare and we need 2 weeks (2 suites) to accommodate us all. But I'm very excited about this trip. And since I have heard nothing but good things from other Food Allergy Mom's about Disney's food allergy awareness and cooperation, I am working through the knots in my stomach and forging ahead with the plan. Kayla's excited, although she has NO idea what Disney World is and NO idea what to expect and how long it will be until we go. :) And I have actually spoken briefly to someone at Disney and I was told that when we make our dinner reservations (like 6 months ahead of time), to let them know of her allergy and they will put me in touch with their on-site dieticians and then I can also speak to the chef when we arrive. So far so good. :)
I will keep you posted on how the planning goes. I have a feeling I will be taking the reigns on this thing, as I've already been making phone calls and looking into ticket prices. But that's ok - I live to plan and organize.
If anyone has any Disney planning advice, especially food allergy related, I'd love to hear it.

Good luck at Diego. It should be fun! That's not odd to be planning two years in advance. Mark and I decided that this would be our last year to go to Maryland for a while because we want to take the boys to Disney either 2 or 3 years from now. You can never plan 2 early:) It costs so much to do Maryland that we thought we better start putting that money away. With Jasons allergies I stay at a nice (expensive) hotel right on the boardwalk. It has everything we need. It costs a lot, but it's in my comfort zone. We can't just pick up and go anywhere so we have to pay to play.
I think we're going to Disney in September - which totally makes me think I better get planning on that. I have also heard that they are stellar with food allergies.
Our plan is to get accomodations which have a kitchen - that way we can always make our food if need be. I just need the security of being able to make food, even if we never have to.
I can't wait to hear about your planning!
